On Wednesday, March 4th, Amber Run, together with Néomí, put on a show at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. It was a beautiful, intimate acoustic gig, perfectly suited for the historic venue!

First on stage was the Dutch singer Néomí, alongside Jesse Koch on the keys. The first song they did was "skipping stone", followed by a huge applause.

Néomí said she’d wish she could speak German, then went on to say a phrase she learned at school, "Immer gerade aus" (Straight ahead all the time).

Introducing "eyes filled with sky" (a song from her first EP, before), she said it’s a sad one and joked that it's about her "terrible love life". She debuted "Didn’t I" live, explaining it’s a song for people who are heartbroken before playing it. It’s her latest single and was released on February 6th!

"I Wish I Never Met You" was the last song Néomí and Jesse did. She animated fans to sing the "you" whenever it was time to sing those lyrics during the song. She said, "Thank you so much!" She and Jesse walked off stage, and the room gave them a thunderous applause.

Then it was time for Amber Run, Joe Keogh (vocals, guitar), Henry Wyeth (keys) and Tom Sperring (bass) being on stage. The first songs they sang were "Fickle Game", "Noah" and "Just My Soul Responding".

Joe thanked the crowd for coming to their show and for spending the evening with the band.

Then the band did a live cover, the past shows on their current tour run, they didn't do one yet. It was "The Night We Met" by Lord Huron.

Recently, Amber Run released their newest EP, "Sunflower," on February 13th. In introducing the song "Jane" from this EP, Joe mentioned that his parents had recently divorced, so he wrote it for his mom.

Néomí joined the band on stage for their song "Haze". For the song "Home", also from their latest EP, Joe explained it was about his wife.

Introducing "Amen", Joe explained that about 6 years ago, he was on tour with Amber Run when he got a call that his grandad had died. The one thing he got asked to do was to read a poem at the funeral; his granddad wasn’t someone who read poems, however. Joe wished he wasn’t just reading the words of the poem, but actually said something with more meaning and that’s why "Amen" got written.

It’s the words that I wish that I had said.

During "I Found", Joe was alone on stage at the piano. A fan had a sign asking to join him during the song, which he agreed to, so the fan sang a part of the song alongside him!

Closing their set, Henry and Tom, on stage again alongside Joe and Amber Run, sang the song "Sunflower". Néomí re-joined them for that one!

Just like during Néomí’s set, thunderous applause stretched throughout their whole set. Fans listened attentively and the band managed to fill the whole room with their voices!

Throughout 2022 and the beginning of 2023 I started to photograph with my phone at shows I went to, in April of 2023 I got to photograph with my camera at a show for the first time and have been doing it since. I love that it´s possible to combine (live) music and photography!

Excited to see what the future will bring!
