Alice Phoebe Lou and the Art of being Human

There’s a special kind of intimacy that exists when Alice Phoebe Lou takes the stage. It feels like sitting around a bonfire and having that one friend fill the air with longing and love while playing along on his guitar.

A room full of strangers turned into friends - that’s exactly how the night began on May 6th in Frankfurt, where Alice played at Zoom.

Strawberry Guy, a Liverpool-based artist whose soft, melancholic dream-pop served as the perfect opener into the emotional atmosphere to come. Sitting on a piano alone, he managed to set the right vibe, disarming a whole crowd with a very personal set. He matched Alice's vibe perfectly, they both leaned into vulnerability, unafraid of taking space and leaving room for stillness.

From the moment Alice opened with “Angel”, her presence filled the room. Alice’s songs are incredibly personal — it feels more like listening to a close friend than being at a nearly sold-out concert. This personal note could be found in every aspect of her show, from her band, with whom she seems to have a very close knight bond, giving the vibe of friends having fun and making music together, to her songs and her presence.

There are artists who like to interact a lot with the crowd, but that’s not really Alice’s way. Still, you never get the feeling that anything is missing. She manages to keep a constant connection between her and the audience throughout the evening. There’s no need for big words as her songs, her music, speak for themselves.

The set was rich in variety and emotional depth. Alice moved seamlessly between songs performed with her band and stripped-down solo moments, switching from soft and delicate to bold and full of power. Her voice adapted to every shift: fragile and whispery in one moment, then strong and commanding in the next. That contrast brought a sense of unpredictability and authenticity to the night.

Toward the end of the show, the energy rose one last time. The final songs "Underworld", "Witches" and "Dirty Mouth" got the crowd moving — dancing, singing, celebrating this tuesday evening in May. The night ended on a high, with a feeling that was both warm and euphoric. All in all it was a very relaxed evening. Before the show even started, many guests were lounging in the sun on the steps outside the venue — taking in the warm Tuesday evening that already hinted at the summer to come.

If you missed the show in Frankfurt: Alice Phoebe Lou will be performing again on May 16th, 2025 at the About Pop Festival in Stuttgart — one last chance to catch her live in this setting.
