Watch It Ache and Bleed: Nieve Ella's Electric Night in Berlin

Back in February, British singer Nieve Ella embarked on her headline tour, “Watch it Ache and Bleed,” performing across the EU and UK. Unfortunately, she had to cancel her Berlin show due to illness, but she made it up to fans by rescheduling for August. Throughout the summer, she played at several festivals, including OpenAir St. Gallen in Switzerland, MS Dockville in Hamburg, and Leeds Festival in the UK. Amid her busy festival schedule, she returned to Berlin to perform at Club Lido, a venue renowned for hosting rock-indie concerts and lively parties.
On the 19th of August, on a warm summer day in Berlin, the doors to the club opened and fans accumulated around the stage, eagerly awaiting Nieve Ella. With no barricade to separate the crowd from the stage, the fans get to be as close to their favourite artist as possible. Since it is such an intimate show, they brought gifts with them and signs, hoping to catch Nieve’s attention.
While Nieve got ready to perform, the British singer-songwriter Leona Rue got to warm up the stage. These are her first shows outside the UK, and she is super excited to play them. It is a simple setup. Just Leona and her guitar. The songs she sang included “You Make It Look Easy” and a new song called “Car Crash,”. They are all very soft and intimate, which invited the fans to sway along. One memorable tune was “Daisy”, which Leona Rue wrote about her little sister growing up, which the singer then mashed up with “Matilda” by Harry Styles. It was a lovely performance. She also announced that she would love to come back to Germany to do a show. If you see her touring, you might want to check her out.

After a quick stage setup, Nieve Ella and her band took the stage while the crowd was cheering. She opened with the fast rock tune “Anything”, making it a fantastic opener for the set. Everyone immediately started jumping and singing along excitedly. Already at the beginning, the 22-year-old singer gets a bit emotional and says that it feels like her first tour. She follows this with her songs “The Things We Say” and “Blu Shirt Boy”. Before the next song, she explains that since fans always blow bubbles, they brought a bubble machine, and a fan gets to blow it during “Sweet Nothings”. The audience was super engaged with the artist and their music. The line of the song “I love how you say my name” is followed by the fans chanting “Nieve”, which was super sweet. Other songs she sang were “The Reason”, older songs like “Car Park”, which was featured in the TV series “Heartstopper”, and “Your Room”. Overall, the set was super upbeat with her quick rock tunes. You could tell that the singer and the whole band were so into it and felt their songs completely. And so did the fans: while the show wasn’t sold out, the fans put all their energy into making the whole room dance and feel electric. “You’re moving and dancing so much. I did not expect that”.
One could tell how genuinely excited and into their work the artist was, which made the show even more special. “I am so happy this is where I belong!” the young singer exclaimed multiple times, “Let’s take a break to remind ourselves how cool this is!”. Nieve has a very intimate connection to her fans, which includes small chats and gift exchanges. It is so lovely to see that the appreciation goes both ways.

All in all, with her unmatchable energy and authentic connection to the crowd, Nieve Ella underscores her rising presence in the indie-rock scene. She’s an artist well worth keeping on your radar.

I like to write about everything pop & fandom culture. Since it has been an integral part of my life for over 10 years I want to write about it for people to get an insight into something they might not understand. I‘d love to shed light onto the misogynistic view on fansgirls/boys. Sport fans and pop music fans are not as different.
