With Hamnet closing out an amazing 2025 movie year, 2026 has already kicked off with some incredible movie releases, such as Wuthering Heights and The Moment in theatres and People We Meet on Vacation on Netflix. However, we are for sure nowhere near the end! In the following article, I have gathered ten movies (plus a few honorable mentions) coming out in 2026 that you should definitely add to your must-watch list for this year!

REMINDERS OF HIM

This romantic drama, based on Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel of the same name, was directed by Vanessa Caswill and starred Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers. As I truly enjoyed reading the novel, I’m really looking forward to watching this movie, as I have sadly not been the biggest fan of her previous book-to-film adaptations.
Set to be released March 12th (Germany) and March 13th (USA, UK), the film is centered around a young mother named Kenna, who tries to reunite with her daughter after serving time in prison. However, her goal of reconnecting with her daughter is met with obstacles, marked by loss, grief and guilt. As she faces judgment and the weight of her past mistakes, Kenna fights for forgiveness and second chances. Watch the trailer here.

This next comedy directed by Matthew Shear, Fantasy Life follows 30+ year old legal assistant who was laid off his job. Searching for money, he accepts a job as a babysitter for the three kids of psychiatrist’s daughter where he unexpectedly falls for the married actress who is struggling in her marriage. Starring Amanda Peet and Matthew Shear himself, the film will be released in the NYC theaters on March 27th and nationwide on April 3rd. Release dates for UK and Germany are yet to be announced.
This is definitely a movie I’m looking forward to this year, as I found the trailer quite endearing. Also, Amanda Peer is finally back from her acting break, which she took to focus on her personal life. Watch the trailer here!

APRIL

MICHAEL

Personally, I love biographical movies – especially about musicians. I’m pretty sure this will be no different with Michael, a biopic based on the life of pop legend Michael Jackson, exploring his connection with his family, rise to fame as Jackson 5 and on his own, as well as his personal life and impact on music and pop culture. The American singer, songwriter and actor Jaafar Jeremiah Jackson will take on the leading role, the son of Jermaine Jackson, a member of Jackson 5 and brother of Michael Jackson. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the movie will be released on April 24th in the USA, the UK and Germany. Watch the trailer here!

THE DRAMA

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in ONE movie? Yes, please and thank you. This is one of my most anticipated movies this year. This A24 film, directed by Kristoffer Borgli, follows a happily engaged couple’s relationship as it is put to the test shortly before their wedding, as unexpected secrets come to the surface. The movie is set to be released on April 3rd in the US, UK and Germany. So, save the date (pun intended!) and watch the trailer here!

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2

Well, I am a big fan of Anne Hathaway, and it definitely is a big and busy year for her. Starting off with The Devil Wears Prada 2, she is back in her role as Andy Sachs. Starring alongside Meryl Streep in her role as Miranda Priestly, of course, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are back as well. The long-awaited sequel, directed by David Frankel, follows Andy’s return to the fashion magazine “Runway” and its struggles. Former assistant Emily is now head of a luxury brand, which might be the only way of ensuring Runway’s survival in the modern fashion world. The release on May 1st (US, UK and Germany) honestly cannot come fast enough and you will find me in cinemas on that date, that’s for sure. Watch the trailer here!

MOTHER MARY

Above, I already mentioned the big and busy year of Anne Hathaway. The psychological drama/film Mother Mary stars Anne Hathaway, alongside Michaela CoelHunter Schafer, and many amazing actors/actresses. The movie with its release date on April 17th (US/UK/Germany) was written and directed by David Lowery, with Jack Antoff, Charli XCX and FKA Twigs involved in the original soundtrack. “Mother Mary” is about a famous pop star, Mary, and her fashion designer, Sam. Both their life’s have taken different paths and as old wounds resurface, both women are forced to confront jealousy, ambition and their personal cost of fame.
This movie is also one I’m highly anticipating, as this A24 film seems quite intriguing and the trailer promises amazing cinematography, outfits, and thrilling vibes. Watch the trailer here!

JUNE

GIRLS LIKE GIRLS

This upcoming coming-of-age romance, directed by Hayley Kiyoko, is an adaptation of her 2023 book, also titled after her 2015 song (honestly, that is such a flex). Starring Maya da Costa and Myra Molloy, the movie follows seventeen-year-old Coley, who must move to Oregon after her mom's death. There, she finds herself falling in love with another girl, afraid to accept their feelings. The movie is set to be released in the US on June 19th. The UK and Germany release dates have yet to be announced. With “love begins when you let it in” written on the film poster, I believe it’s going to be a great watch and I’m looking forward to it. JULY

THE ODYSSEY

July has so many amazing movies coming up that I honestly think I’ll spend many summer nights in a cinema. As a big fan of Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey, with its release date on July 17th (USA, UK, Germany), I’m quite sure it will be as epic as always. With an insanely talented cast, including Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus, joined by ZendayaTom Holland, Robert PattinsonAnne Hathaway, and Lupita Nyong’o, it’s bound to be one of my favorite movies this year. Following Odysseus, king of Ithaca, he and his men embark on their dangerous journey home from the Trojan War, facing mythical creatures and powerful gods, fighting for their resilience against temptation, and longing for home. NOVEMBER

THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING

By now, I think you have noticed that I am a book girly (of all genres, to be honest). This movie claims its place as number one on my most anticipated movies this year. Adapted from Suzanne Collins' dystopian novel of the same name, it is centered on the 50th Hunger Games and the second Quarter Quell, with its tribute from district twelve, Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada. The book made me cry, and I’m sure the movie directed by Francis Lawrence will do the same. With its release date on 20th November, it will be a long wait, but it will definitely be worth it. DECEMBER

AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

Ever since the Endgame era, I sadly think MARVEL has lacked in their quality. Therefore, I have high hopes with Chris Evans’ character Steve Rogers returning in The Avengers: Doomsday makes it feel like MARVEL in the old days. Directed by the Russo Brothers and starring returning Avengers legends such as Robert Downey Jr.Chris HemsworthTom HiddlestonBenedict Cumberbatch, as well as Vanessa Kirby and Florence Pugh, I’m honestly really excited for this movie. The release date is set on December 18th in the USA, UK and Germany. Watch one of the teasers here!

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
(March 6th in Cinemas / March 30th on Netflix) Starring Cillian Murphy, directed by Tom Harper and written by Steven Knight, the movie follows Tommy Shelby around World War II, as he emerges from his exile to face personal and criminal threats.

Forbidden Fruits
(March 27th in the USA, UK and Germany yet to be announced), It is directed by Meredith Alloway and is an American independent comedy-horror film. Starring alongside Lili Reinhardt are Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Chamberlain and Gabrielle Union. Forbidden Fruits is about a group of mall employees, secretly running a femme witch cult. When a new member joins their cult, they are forced to confront their own darkness.

Moana
(July 10th in the USA, UK and Germany). This live-action adaptation of the beloved Disney animated film of the same name stars Catherine Lagaʻaia. Directed by Thomas Kail, the movie is produced by Dwayne Johnson, who is also reprising his role as Maui.

Author's Note

As you see, this year, so many amazing movies are coming out. Definitely mark them down somewhere, create a must-watch list and do not forget to support your local cinemas!

For people living in Austria, there is an amazing cinema subscription called “Nonstop”. Costing 22€ per month, you can watch as many movies as you like in multiple cities. This is not an advertisement but a recommendation, as many of my friends love to use it and I will definitely consider it as well for busier movie months!
