The Sailors Have Arrived: Conan Gray brings Wishbone World Tour to Hamburg
On Thursday, May 21st, countless dreams came true as Conan Gray brought his Wishbone World Tour to Hamburg, Germany. After skipping Germany entirely during his Found Heaven Tour, German fans were more eager than ever to welcome the pop icon back to a stage in their home country after four years.
At first glance, the crowd looked perfectly fitting for the famous port city of Hamburg: sailors everywhere, a nod to the city’s deeply rooted maritime identity. But with a closer look, something unusual and wonderfully extravagant stood out: glitter. Lots and lots of glitter. The Coneheads, as Conan Gray’s fans are called, had clearly put enormous effort into their outfits, beautifully reflecting their excitement for the hours ahead. For many in the audience, this felt like far more than just a concert. It was a spectacle, a celebration, and a safe space all at once.
Joining Gray on this journey around the world was Esha Tewari, who charmingly showed off some of her German skills. While there is definitely still room for improvement, it is the thought that counts, right?
The thrilling trend of surprise songs has also found its place on Conan’s Wishbone World Tour, creating not just one, but arguably two of the evening’s biggest highlights.
The first, known as the Campfire Song, was an intimate acoustic moment featuring a song chosen by the singer himself. Hamburg was treated to “Footnote”. Just him, his guitar, and a small bonfire. It gave the crowd a chance to fully take in the moment and appreciate Gray’s raw talent.
The second highlight was even more heart-racing, as the song was chosen by a fan. Usually, this tradition rewards one lucky fan for the effort they put into their outfit. After breaking a wishbone with the singer, a fitting nod to the album, Hamburg was gifted the fan favorite “This Song”, which surprisingly did not make the official setlist. What made the setlist, however, were countless hits such as “Heather”, “The Cut That Always Bleeds”, “Memories”, and “Vodka Cranberry”, with the crowd passionately screaming along to every lyric as if they had written the songs themselves.
Overall, Hamburg was especially lucky that night. The venue struck the perfect balance: large enough to fully accommodate the stage production, yet intimate enough to match the themes Conan Gray explored throughout the evening. Heartbreak, family struggles, friendship, and everything else young adults are forced to navigate. This was definitely the place to be that night!
