Between Melancholy and Hope: error's New EP Release Showcase

Just one day after releasing his new EP "DAS GLÜCK GEHÖRT VERSAGERN“ (Luck Belongs to Losers), the German Indie-Pop artist error celebrated his return to the stage with an intimate release show at Badehaus in Berlin. It felt less like a concert and more like a shared emotional exhale. Backed by a small live band error moved effortlessly between vulnerability and self-reflection.

From the very first song, it was clear that error wasn’t chasing perfection for the evening and was chasing connection. „I’ve missed being on stage and performing in front of people,“ he confessed early on, before launching into one of his new songs. He started the evening with "Das Glück gehört Versagern“ („Luck Belongs to Losers), a song that has already resonated with the fans.

„We’re here tonight to celebrate my new EP,“ he told the crowd with a mix of excitement and nervous laughter after playing "Kratzer im Lack“ (Scratches in the Paint). „I’m very excited, because playing new songs is always kind of thrilling,“ he confessed after the song.

Then came "Millers Planet,“a lyrical homage to Christopher Nolan’s hit movie Interstellar. „The song is about time. How it can sometimes feel like it’s moving painfully slow, or like it’s slipping through your fingers, depending on where your head and heart are,” error explained. Under dim light, he took the crowd on an adventure through time.

One of the error’s greatest strengths as a performer is how caring he is about his fans and their well-being. He blurs the lines between artist and audience. Between songs, he speaks not like a frontman but like a friend to the fans. „Promise me that you’ll make yourself heard when you’re not doing well, or when you feel uncomfortable“, he said, before continuing with his set. „By the way, I’m error. You probably know that, but I actually don’t know who you all are. So on three, say what you think the person to your right is called“. The crowd burst into laughter as random names echoed through the venue. „Perfect! Now we know each other“, error said playfully.

Then came "Die Hälfte von nichts“ (Half of Nothing), a devastatingly fragile heartbreak song from the new EP. „What would an error EP be without at least one absolutely depressing heartbreak track?“ He joked, half-smiling, before diving into the melancholy.

Midway through the set, error opened up about the creative process behind the EP. „I was really lost for the first four months of this year,“ he admitted. „With my music, with myself, with where my life was heading. I felt like a failure, but I decided to keep going. All the songs that came out of that time are now, more or less, on this EP. So it’s a small time capsule of my year,“ he told the crowd.

Introducing his song "Method Acting“, he continued: „The song is about putting on a brave face when everything feels wrong. I wrote it during a time when I stopped believing that things would work out. But I learned that it gets better, it really does. And I hope we can celebrate that together tonight.“ It’s these kinds of moments that make errors' live presence so magnetic and endearing.

After an instrumental interlude, he returned with "Fluchtpunkt", a song about two lovers who love each other deeply but aren’t good for each other. Soon after came "SIGNS", which he introduced with a grin: “It’s loosely about the trending topic of Mother Earth.” Before playing "00,00KG", he shared one of the most vulnerable speeches of the night: “When you make music, it’s a very abstract thing to know that people will listen to it. Honestly, I can’t really grasp that, especially in the age of the internet. So it feels surreal to stand here in front of you. For this next song, I always had the feeling it really resonates with some of you. That makes me happy but also a little sad. If you’ve ever struggled with your body image, I’d love for you to let go of all that emotional weight for the next three minutes.” As he sang, the crowd jumped and shouted the lyrics back at him, not in sadness but in something that felt like release.

The second half of the show leaned more into movement, "Versprich, dass du immer alles sagst (“Promise Me You’ll Always Say Everything”) and "Richtung Mars" (“Heading Toward Mars”) got hands clapping and heads nodding. Between songs, error took the time to thank his team and everyone in the room: “Tonight is special for me in many ways,” he said.

Then, with visible nostalgia, he announced: “We’re now going to play the first song I ever released.” The crowd cheered as "Starkes Drehbuch, schwacher Cast" filled the room. But the memorable moment came next. “I’m about to commit a concert sin,” he laughed. “I’m going to play a song again. That’s probably super uncool from a rock’n’roll perspective — but luckily, I make indie pop.” He stepped off the stage and into the audience, surrounded by fans singing "Das Glück gehört Versagern" at the top of their lungs.

When the crowd demanded an encore, Error smiled. “I’ve already committed one concert sin,” he said. “Now I’ll commit another. Encores are supposed to be a song that everyone loves — or one that’s really successful. The next one is neither.”

Then he premiered "Lass los" (Let Go), an unreleased track that gave a glimpse into his next chapter. Finally, he turned to the crowd one last time: “Let’s do this like before. Forget anything bad that happened this year. Let’s take all that weight, put it into the next song, and sing as loud as we can.” He closed with "1000 Liter Teer", stepping into the audience one last time during the outro. After the show, he stayed by the merch table, chatting and taking photos. One fan had come all the way from Austria. “How can I ever make that up to you?” he asked, visibly touched.

Error’s Berlin show was about honesty and familiarity. And that’s what the night was about: being here, together, in the small warmth of the room full of strangers, who shared an amazing evening together.

The "DAS GLÜCK GEHÖRT VERSAGERN“ EP is less a collection of songs and more a diary carved into synth lines and raw admissions. Across its tracks, error sketches the blurry outlines of a year spent doubting, recalibrating, and finding fragments of hope. "Die Hälfte von Nichts“ is a heartbreak confessional, while "Method Acting“ dives deeper. Confronting the exhaustion of pretending to be okay. Both songs carry the emotional DNA of error: soft-spoken yet devastatingly sincere.
