Although spring has just arrived, Berlin experienced an early autumn comeback this week, as on Thursday, March 19th, 2026, herbst played the second-to-last show of his wieder wieder verliebt Tour at Frannz Club in Berlin, in support of his debut album wieder verliebt, released last year.

Starting the intimate evening with a “one night only” performance, Mathi opened, as herbst had different openers at every show. Admitting to the crowd that he could count on two hands how many times he had been on stage, he still confidently delivered a set of melancholic indie-pop songs like “3xgeschworen” or “seht ihr nicht”, reminiscent of artists like Provinz, Jaschu, or Ennio. After his performance, it became clear that Mathi is definitely an artist to keep an eye on in the near future.

Once herbst stepped on stage, you could really see how happy and motivated he was to be there, which felt refreshing and was infectious. Overall, throughout the show, one could notice many small details where influences and inspirations from current pop legends were reflected in herbst’s own artistry. From praising RAYE and voicing his excitement about her upcoming album to covering her song “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!”, he made his inspirations feel present without losing his own identity.

At the same time, his musical and artistic versatility stood out clearly. This was not only evident in his performance itself, but also in the fact that he had musicians like Maike in his team, who accompanied him on the cello, adding another emotional layer to the live experience. A particularly impressive detail was his classical piano background, which he completed as a child. This became especially evident during the performance of the title track “wieder verliebt”, which he accompanied on the keys himself, adding a personal, intimate touch to the moment.

Before “Bitte lieb mich”, an unreleased song, he created breathtaking harmonies by looping his own voice live on stage, similar to Billie Eilish during her recent Hit Me Hard And Soft tour or Ariana Grande at her Vevo Positions performance. Although not looped, his siren-like voice during “In der Stille liegt der Fluch” left the audience in awe. Another standout moment during the show was definitely “Perplex”, where, at least sonically, herbst took us on a short vacation to a warm summer night in Spain.

During a second cover of the night of Apsilon’s “Koffer”, the artist also showed a more political side, adding his own lines to the song. He openly spoke in support of marginalized groups, such as Palestine and Gaza, making a clear and powerful statement. Additionally, the stage design resembled a living room, with lamps integrated into the light show, perfectly matching the intimate and safe space herbst created.
