Hurricane 2026!
Scheeßel, from a small town with close to 13.000 inhabitants, to a city with 78.000 for the weekend of the Hurricane Festival. Despite the heat, the fans, crew, and musicians still had a great time. The festival's 30-year anniversary was celebrated properly!
Large numbers of people had already traveled to the festival on Thursday, ahead of its official start. Starting as early as the morning to arrive at the campsite at 11:00 am and secure a good spot, continuing throughout the day until nighttime.
Music is already heard throughout the festival grounds, with acts like Paula Carolina and Disarstar, and fans happily listening on the camping grounds, excited for the days ahead.
Friday:
The day started strongly for us with our grandson. During his afternoon set, he had the fans put up their hands and form mosh pits really fast. Visibly, they had fun and supported the political messages he has in his songs! In contrast to him, Rikas had a calmer set, but naturally also attracted listeners who enjoyed it.
During Kayla Shyx's set, it was clear that she had huge fans in the front row who cheered her on throughout the entirety of her set.
Bosse pleasantly surprised the crowd with a set full of political messages. He spoke out against fascism, against digital violence being done by right-wingers, and led a "Ganz Scheeßel hasst die AFD" (All of Scheeßel hates the AFD) chant. Bosse also spoke out about how water is a human right!
Then it was time for Yungblud, one of the headliners of Friday. The expectations for his set were high, and he delivered! With a busy and demanding schedule, he still managed to show up and put on a show people won’t forget. Starting with fire right at the beginning of his set, up to bringing a fan up on stage to play "fleabag" alongside him on a guitar. The latter has been a tradition for this song throughout his shows!
Now it was Kraftklub's turn to take the stage! Their sign saying "KRAFTKLUB STERBEN IN KARL-MARX-STADT" was easily spotted from miles away, a huge crowd already gathered in excitement, the first song starts, and confetti is falling down on the people. Loud singing across all rows, mosh pits, and at one point, even members of Kraftklub themselves in the crowd!
Our Friday night ended with Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys. Turquoise strings of confetti falling from the sky, fans happily dancing along, letting their evening come to a close exuberantly. Fireworks during the last few minutes of the band's set to top it all off.
Saturday Came Around!
This day started for us with Scene Queen, then onto Florence Road and YONAKA.
The iconic Natasha Bedingfield also performed this very Saturday. She was very smiley the whole time, visibly happy to be there, looked out for her fans, and delivered a fun set through and through! She convinced the audience with her newer songs as well as classics like "Unwritten" and "Pocketful of Sunshine".
RØRY had a great set as well! They filled the stage with energy. They mentioned it was their first time playing the Hurricane Festival and seemed honored to have the chance. RØRY is an inspiring person through and through, an example to not let your age define you! Just because people say it's too late for something, doesn't mean it is, like they also briefly talked about.
Info got around that the German band Leoniden will play a surprise set. The tent where they played was filled! Themselves in the middle of it on the B-stage and fans all around them. Albeit they played rather spontaneously, their set went through the roof.
Edwin Rosen; he played a beautiful show right when the sun started setting. He could not stop smiling and seemed very humble and grateful to be doing what he's doing. Fans vibed along the whole time and especially during favorites like "Vertigo".
Fans of Florence + the Machine and Twenty One Pilots were easily spotted all day, dressing in line with each artist's vibe. It was finally time for their sets! We caught a few minutes of Florence + The Machine's set; they put on a magnificent performance. Then we went over to make sure we didn't miss the Twenty One Pilots' show. And wow, they fully convinced the crowd and us. If someone wasn't a fan before, they were so after they saw the duo live. It wasn’t just a show, it was a whole experience. From Tyler jumping from his piano first song in, to going into the crowd already two songs in, to him theatrically taking off his mask he had on during the third song, to him running along the barricade, to climbing on some sort of a platform in the middle of the sea of fans, and to then sing from there. Josh truly showcased his drumming skills throughout their set; at one point, he even climbed the right side of the stage to play on the drums set up there. The duo sang classics like "Stressed Out" or newer songs like "RAWFEAR" and f.e. even a cover of "Stolen Dance" by Milky Chance. For their song "Ride", they asked a young fan to come on stage at one point, who got to sing the song from there!
After that memorable show, to top the evening off and to celebrate that it was the festival's 30th edition, a full fireworks show illuminated the sky above the River Stage.
Sunday:
Our first act of this day was the German band, Rosmarin. Despite it being 1 pm on a Sunday, they managed to gather a bunch of people in front of the stage and noticeably had fans in attendance. The iconic The Beaches did a super sweet, fun set, and they had fans waving their hands in the air. As they mentioned, they are in their deluxe era.
Then it was time for Empire Of The Sun. Their stage design and the way everyone on stage dressed fit together beautifully. Real fun energy, they were singing songs like "We Are The People, "Walking On A Dream," or "Alive," and fans could be spotted dancing along.
Long-awaited, it was Halsey's turn to take the stage. Sun setting, fans scattered across the field in front of the stage, and Halsey started. They sang classics like "Colors", "Closer", and "Without Me," and newer ones like "Dog Years" or "Lonely is the Muse". Unfortunately, Halsey keeps getting negative criticism, but they perform right through it, so to speak. In Scheeßel, a powerful person stood on stage, someone who's very resilient and strong, someone you can look up to.
From one full crowd to another, it was time for Provinz. Fans with signs for the band to see in the front row, everyone singing along.
Billy Talent was the last act we saw at the 2026 edition of the Hurricane Festival. Some people came to see this show for nostalgia, some because they are newer fans of the band and didn't want to miss their set, regardless, everyone including Billy Talent themselves, came together and seemed to have an amazing time! We didn't know what to expect, but they truly surprised us, wow! Billy Talent put on a memorable show for sure.
The weekend has been demanding for most people at the festival, whether fans, artists, or staff, especially because of the heat. Although this was the case, the consensus is that it was a successful weekend, and we would definitely recommend attending the festival in the coming years.

Throughout 2022 and the beginning of 2023 I started to photograph with my phone at shows I went to, in April of 2023 I got to photograph with my camera at a show for the first time and have been doing it since. I love that it´s possible to combine (live) music and photography!
Excited to see what the future will bring!
