Lilyisthatyou Makes Cologne Part of Her Garden on Her "The Flowers Have Feelings Tour"
It’s Friday night, 8 pm, and Cologne’s Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld is buzzing with anticipation of pop star Lilyisthatyou’s arrival. Once the lights dim, everyone knows she’s coming. The crowd claps and cheers when they spot her making her way through the crowd to the stage, accompanied by her photographer and best friend, Max Lopez, who films her entrance. The light from his camera picks Lily out among the crowd, allowing the entire club to witness her arrival.
Once settled on stage, which she has decorated fittingly for her The Flowers Have Feelings tour, the show begins surrounded by flowers. Her teal-coloured outfit fits in perfectly, making her look like one of them.
The crowd is there from the beginning, clapping, singing alongside Lily, dancing, and screaming. Something definitely is in the air that night. It feels special. It feels like more than a typical concert night. Everyone is having the best time, screaming the lyrics to every single song, and they do not disappoint Lily when she turns the mic towards the crowd on multiple occasions to hear them. Her stage presence is captivating. At one point, she waits for the audience to sing the next line, “I don’t want your intimacy,” and they immediately deliver. It is just one of many moments of great crowd work throughout the night.
One of our highlights is definitely the DJ's transitions from one song to the next. And we aren’t the only ones who love them. The transitions from one song to another are fluid, neat, and effortless. The bass is perfectly timed and keeps the set’s momentum steady. Lily and her team prove that night that they are definitely made to perform on stages and are out to give everyone a good time.
Songs like "Momentum" and "HARD TO LOVE" have people jumping, singing, and screaming along. While she performs, she includes the flowers onstage, dancing around them and smelling them.
“Cologne, let me see your hands,” Lily screams, and the crowd follows her request, throwing their hands into the air.
“What an amazing night! It’s my first time in Cologne,” she declares, taking a second to take it all in. Lily shares that it is really special to her to have come all the way from Canada and to see this crowd before her now. She continues telling the crowd that they are the flowers in her garden. She does not know them yet, but will have a special connection to them from here on out. The smiles and cheers around us show they love hearing it, and the feeling seems mutual.
“This next song is for the ones who keep watering, watering and watering, but nothing is coming, so just keep going,” Lily tells the crowd, while people around us embrace each other as the song begins.
“You are not hard to love. Do you understand me?" Lily screams into her microphone, maintaining eye contact with the crowd, making sure every single person in the venue knows their value.
A little later, she exclaims, "You look so beautiful tonight! Let's take a photo." Turning away from the crowd, she searches for her photographer. “Best friend, where are you?” Once he is on the stage, he takes two photos, one of the crowd and one group picture with Lily, while everyone screams, “Flowers have feelings!”
Lily acknowledges the buzzing crowd and all the dancing happening in front of her. “I wanna dance with you guys,” she says, looking at the people in front of her. “But we have a lot of shows left on this tour. And I can’t break my ankle.”
That doesn’t stop her from dancing and jumping around the stage throughout her performance. She keeps both ankles safely out of the crowd.
Another notable moment comes when “SIXTH SENSE” starts. The song moves between slower and faster moments, giving the performance the chance to build before the energy rises again. There is dancing, clapping, screaming, and plenty of crowd engagement. With every step of the setlist, the concert turns more into a party rather than a general and simple concert show. Everything from the atmosphere, performance, lights, transitions, to the bond between the artist and her fans increasingly turns the night into something special.
“Cologne! Are you sweating?” The screams from the crowd give Lily a pretty clear answer.
“You can feel someone watching you, right?” she asks before beginning her song "I Know You’re Watching".
She moves across the stage, singing to the flowers as stage fog accompanies her performance. Her high notes become one of the standout vocal moments of the night. By the end of the song, the applause is so loud that the entire club seems to be buzzing. Lily responds by blowing the crowd an air kiss.
Throughout the show, she lets the crowd know that she will be waiting at the merch table afterward, ready to take pictures and sign whatever people want her to sign. The excitement is evident among the people around us, anticipating this special moment of meeting her, even though the show is not over yet.
Then Lily turns it back a few years and plays her debut single that went viral in 2021, “FMRN”.
“Do you guys know this one?”
Judging by the ecstatic screams and immediate sing-alongs, she doesn’t even have to ask. During the song, Lily repeatedly points the microphone towards the crowd, letting them repeat parts of the refrain, and pulling them even further into her world.
We didn’t think the crowd could sing any louder, scream more or jump higher than they already had, but when “SIREN” comes on, we are proven wrong. “SIREN” is her top song on Spotify, and it is evident by the way the crowd reacts to it.
“It don't feel like la-la-love,” the crowd sings before Lily joins in. The applause that follows is immense, and we happily join in.
Lily makes sure to test the crowd’s ability with her song's "RELAX AFTER WORK WITH A DRINK" lyric “Ooh, go a little harder,” and the crowd devours instantly and goes a little harder than before, somehow finding another level of energy.
Thank you, Cologne. I’m Lilyisthatyou. This is the best show so far. I love you so much.
Then comes the final song of the night, “NOSTALGIA BABY”, with a lyric that suddenly feels particularly fitting: “And I can’t believe it’s over. I can’t believe it’s over.”
“Sex, swag and the fountain of youth,” Lily calls out, letting the crowd throw the words back at her three times. It is one final moment of the back-and-forth that has defined the night. Deepening the connection between artist and audience throughout the night.
Thank you for tonight. I love you so much.
Lily’s smile is radiant as she sends air kisses towards the crowd. They clap and form hearts with their hands. Then the lights dim and the concert comes to an end.
And just like the lyric they sang moments earlier, the crowd doesn't seem quite ready to believe it's already over. Nobody seems quite ready to say goodbye to Lily and her incredible team. And we can't blame them. After a night built around Lily constantly bringing the audience into her world, letting them sing the lyrics with her, calling them the flowers in her garden and turning a concert into something more than a simple concert, it is only right to want to stay a little longer and dwell in the magical moment.
