Hex Hex, She’s Back: Bibi Blocksberg Is Travelling through Time
If you grew up in Germany, chances are you know exactly what “Eene meene…” means — and probably still have “Hex-hex!” somewhere in your vocabulary. Bibi Blocksberg has been part of German pop culture for decades, and now Neustadt’s most famous young witch is heading back to the cinema.
Following "Bibi Blocksberg – Das große Hexentreffen", Nala returns as Bibi in "Bibi Blocksberg – Die total verhexte Zeitreise", hitting German cinemas on September 24, 2026. This time, Bibi isn’t just causing magical chaos in the present — she’s accidentally travelling more than 100 years into the past.
From the world’s most boring internship to a time-travel adventure
It all starts with something decidedly less magical: a school internship. In classic Bibi fashion, she has forgotten to sign up in time. While Marita gets to investigate with the police and Florian joins reporter Karla Kolumna in search of his next story, Bibi is left with what she considers the worst option imaginable: working at a museum.
But boredom doesn’t last long when Bibi Blocksberg is involved.
While Bibi helps curator Farrah Pahani prepare a new exhibition, a valuable music box suddenly disappears. Determined to find out what happened, Bibi teams up with her friend Marita and attempts to use magic to travel back to the night of the theft.
There is just one tiny problem: instead of going back a few hours, the two end up 139 years in the past.
Welcome to Klunkerburg Castle
Their accidental trip through time takes Bibi and Marita to Klunkerburg Castle, where they meet Fritzi von Klunkerburg, played by Carmen Diego. The missing music box turns out to have a much longer history than expected.
Fritzi’s aunt Mathilde has her sights set on the precious heirloom, which once belonged to Fritzi’s mother. Suddenly, Bibi and Marita find themselves in the middle of a conflict that began long before either of them was born. They have to protect Fritzi, solve the mystery surrounding the music box and, ideally, figure out how to get themselves back to the present.
It’s a premise that feels made for Bibi Blocksberg: a little chaotic, a little magical and built around friendship, curiosity and breaking a few rules when necessary.
Familiar faces, new additions
Nala once again takes on the role of Bibi, joined by Fia as Marita, Carla Demmin as Schubia and Philomena Amari as Flauipaui. Palina Rojinski returns as the unmistakable Karla Kolumna, while Rosalie Thomass and Friedrich Mücke are back as Bibi’s parents Barbara and Bernhard Blocksberg.
The new adventure also brings some major additions to the cast. Carmen Diego plays Fritzi von Klunkerburg, Nilam Farooq appears as museum curator Farrah Pahani, and Fritzi Haberlandt takes on the roles of Beatrix and Mathilde. Gregor Schnitzler returns to direct, with Bettina Börgerding once again behind the screenplay.
And, of course, it wouldn’t quite feel like this new era of Bibi without a soundtrack. The film once again features songs by Peter Plate, Ulf Leo Sommer and Joshua Lange, with tracks including “Superstar” and “Hexentanz” accompanying the movie’s release.
A new Bibi for a new generation
What makes Bibi Blocksberg such an interesting character to revisit is how long she has been around. Created by Elfie Donnelly, the young witch has moved through audio dramas, animation, books and several live-action adaptations, yet the basic appeal has remained remarkably simple: Bibi is curious, stubborn, independent and never particularly interested in blindly following the rules.
"Die total verhexte Zeitreise" takes that familiar energy and drops it into a classic time-travel mystery. For younger audiences, it’s another introduction to the world of Neustadt. For everyone who grew up with Bibi, Kartoffelbrei and Karla Kolumna, there’s also an undeniable dose of nostalgia involved.
So, whether you’re here for the mystery, the magic or simply to hear “Hex-hex!” on the big screen again, the wait isn’t much longer.
