Pop Punk Meets Maturity: 5 Seconds of Summer Return With a New Album
The sixth album by Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer, or 5SOS for short, is set to be released on November 14, 2025, under the title Everyone's A Star!. With their new album, the band is not only celebrating their 15th anniversary, but also a return to their musical roots, with a healthy dose of self-confidence from a band that has long outgrown the teen niche.
What began as a school project, gaining more and more attention through cover versions of well-known songs on YouTube, 5SOS made their breakthrough when they were invited to accompany One Direction on their Take Me Home Tour in 2013.
With their new 12-track album Everyone's A Star!, the four Australians bring us a mix of modern pop, punk, rock and nostalgic 2000s vibes. Influences from big bands like Blink-182, Green Day and Mayday Parade are combined with a self-deprecating, self-confident and playful style.
The opener track, "Everyone's A Star!", with its lively beat, is a kind of statement: here we are, confident and strong. When I first heard "NOT OK" by 5SOS, I immediately thought of the series "Skins" (the UK version, of course); it could easily be a track on that show, with darker lyrics about the feeling of not being okay. This track is kind of my favorite from 5SOS's new album.
The track "Boyband" creates a flashback to 5SOS' pop-punk roots, ironically and self-reflectively addressing the lives of the four Australians in the spotlight. A short but fast-paced and concise track that rides the current indie wave and contains a certain reflection on change or possible constants is the energetic pop-rock track "istillfeelthesame".
The track "Evolve" invites you to dance and sing along with its energetic chorus, which definitely has ‘hit potential’ on the album and features electronic vibes. The track "Jawbreaker" delivers strong emotions, culminating in a final statement as the last track on the album, an ending with impact and resonance.
Be sure to check out the new album from 5SOS, because everyone's a star and so are you!

Writing, for me, is more than just words on a page. It's a bridge between minds. I write to share stories and topics that deserve to be seen, especially those that speak to the heart of community, culture and music. I believe in the power of words to raise awareness, to bring light to what’s overlooked, to start conversations that matter. In a world full of noise, writing lets me slow down. Through writing, I reach out - to inform, to interact, to invite others into reflection. It’s how I contribute to visibility and understanding.
