After more than a decade away from the studio, Young Rebel Set have made a stirring return with their new single Anchorage, released on 17 July 2025, and have announced their first new record in eleven years titled Sun, due out 5 September 2025.

You could call it a sensation that Young Rebel Set (YRS) are going on tour again. Why? Well, for that, we need to go back a bit. In 2008, seven friends in their early 20s founded a band in the cozy KuBar in Stockton-on-Tees in the northeast of England and wrote their first song. It was called If I Was and, through the winding paths of good old rock 'n' roll magic, found its way to Danny Simons, Head of Booking at Grand Hotel van Cleef in Hamburg, Germany. The spark was lit.

In April 2011, YRS' debut album Curse Our Love was released. In the UK, the band signed with Ignition Records (home to artists like Oasis). Sure, the internet existed back then, but “hype” worked differently. Through music, through live shows. Word of mouth made the concerts grow bigger and bigger, and by the end of 2011, about 1,000 fans were already standing in front of the stage in Berlin and Hamburg when singer Matty Chipchase and the Parmley and Evans brothers walked on.

In 2013, the second album Crocodile followed. In 2015, the story ended - at least for the time being- with a break of indefinite duration. The previous years had been intense, maybe a little too intense. It would take four years before Matty Chipchase rallied his gang again: new songs were already in the drawer, reunion concerts were being planned. In December 2019, Matty passed away at just 35 years old and the concerts never happened.

In September 2024, on the day Matty would have celebrated his 40th birthday, his bandmates performed in KuBar in Stockton with support from the local music scene. They celebrated Matty’s lyrics, their shared songs, their friendship. The spark was lit again. So, founding members Andy and Chris Parmley and Luke Evans decided to reunite the gang after all.

The comeback single Anchorage has deep roots in the band’s history, having been already written during sessions for their 2013 album Crocodile. Now, newly recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, it emerges as a definitive statement of where the band has been and where they’re going. With Tom Blackwell stepping in as lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist, the song respectfully honours the legacy of frontman Matthew Chipchase, while also forging a fresh path. Blackwell’s gravelled vocals bring a heartfelt weight to the lyrics, resonating with the same emotional grit and northern soul that first defined Young Rebel Set.

So, founding members Andy and Chris Parmley and Luke Evans decided to reunite the gang after all.

Sun, the upcoming EP, was also recorded entirely at Abbey Road Studios and promises five tracks that blend reflective storytelling with the band’s trademark melodic urgency. While full reviews are still to come, early signs suggest a record that acknowledges the past without being bound by it — a rebirth rather than a retread.

To celebrate the release, Young Rebel Set will return to the stage for their first UK live shows with two back-to-back nights at the ARC in Stockton-on-Tees in November 2025. These hometown shows are expected to be emotional affairs, combining beloved anthems with new material from their EP Sun. Tickets for the second night are now available and moving fast.

Good news for the german fanbase: The band will also embark on a short run of tour dates in September 2025:

Fri 26th September 2025 @ Molotow, Hamburg

Sat 27th September 2025 @ FRANNZ Club, Berlin

The return of Young Rebel Set is more than a reunion — it’s a tribute, a continuation, and a bold new chapter. With Anchorage already making waves, anticipation for the new EP Sun and their live shows is only growing. This is a comeback steeped in emotion, resilience, and the unshakeable bond between a band and its fans.

Writing, for me, is more than just words on a page. It's a bridge between minds. I write to share stories and topics that deserve to be seen, especially those that speak to the heart of community, culture and music. I believe in the power of words to raise awareness, to bring light to what’s overlooked, to start conversations that matter. In a world full of noise, writing lets me slow down. Through writing, I reach out - to inform, to interact, to invite others into reflection. It’s how I contribute to visibility and understanding.
